Past Projects
- 2019: Assistance in the provision of new interpretation for the ethnographic collections at the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum, Bournemouth. These will be displayed in a redesigned gallery, to be installed March 2020, and will include development of display narratives and elucidation of chosen items to bring them to life, with an emphasis on their visual impact, historical importance and connection with the Russell-Cotes' story.
- 2019: At Buxton Museum provided details of the significance of their ethnographic items, particularly those from Africa, to assist in decisions concerning possible restitution of the material to their places of origin.
- 2019: Provided identification details on non-European items in the Shropshire Museum Service collections at Ludlow, as part of their Expert Eye programme to assess their potential for use in displays and online.
- 2018: Provided information on more African items in the Brighton Museum & Art Gallery collections, as part of their Collections Review Project.
- 2018: Work with Museums Worcestershire on identifying items in their ethnographic collections at Hartlebury, as part of the West Midlands Expert Eye project, supported by Arts Council England Museum Development Programme.
- 2017: Advised the Hatton Gallery, Newcastle University, on the content and texts of the display devoted to the Uhlman Collection of African Art, which opened in October.
- 2016: Work with two museums in the West Midlands, Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery and Brampton Museum, Newcastle-under-Lyme, on their world cultures collections, as part of the West Midlands Expert Eye Project, funded by Arts Council England Museum Development programme.
- 2015: Provided information on a selection of West African items and African ironwork, in the collections of Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, as part of their African Collections Review Project.
- 2015: Examination on behalf of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter, of archives relevant to the Pacific voyage of John Gould Veitch in 1865, to shed light on the circumstances of the museum's Veitch collection.
- 2014-15: Work on a Collections Review and Community Engagement project directed towards Uncovering Ethnography in Kent and Sussex (UNIQUES), including object reviews at five museums, identifying significant objects, selecting objects to be opened up to wider public and professional access. The museums were those at Bexhill, Hastings, Horsham, Maidstone, and the Powell Cotton museum at Quex Park, Birchington. The project was funded by Arts Council England's Strategic Support Fund.
- 2014: Examined and advised on ethnographic material in the keeping of Leicestershire County Council.
- 2014: Advised Reading Museum on its Historic World Objects collection.
- 2013-14: Assisted Colchester & Ipswich Museum Service with its UNLOCKED project, in reviewing the African collections at Ipswich Museum.
- 2012-13: Effective Collections project, based at Saffron Walden Museum, on improving the use of World Cultures collections in five East Anglian museums: Bishop's Stortford, Great Yarmouth, Hertford, Saffron Walden and Wisbech.
